Blue Canvas is seeking a Website Project Manager to join our growing and dynamic Bristol web development team. As the Project Manager, you will need to liaise closely with the lead designer and developer to ensure successful and timely planning and completion of website builds, from start to finish.

The main duties of this role are to:



  • Meet new and prospective clients and elicit information in preparation for new website builds. This will involve helping clients to determine their goals and requirements
  • Determine and produce all project documentation. This includes task breakdowns, timescales, quotations, milestones and specifications
  • Organise the design and development teams, breaking down each stage of a project and ensuring the flow of communication between client, designers and developers
  • Liaise with clients and keep them updated about the progress of their projects, assist with technical support through liaising with designers and developers and follow through invoicing and client relations

Ideal skills


The suitable candidate must have previous experience in the web design industry and a strong management background. You will also require good working knowledge of project management software (e.g. MS Project) and mind-mapping software (e.g. XMind). Due to the nature of the role, a strong knowledge of the web development lifecycle and some understanding of web development technologies is also required. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of HTML/CSS and some familiarity with LAMP architecture (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP).

Blue Canvas is seeking a Website Developer to join our growing and dynamic Bristol web development team. As a website developer, you will be essential to the technical development of websites and will therefore need a very strong knowledge of web technologies and techniques.

The main duties of this role are to:



  • Breakdown functional requirements of a website and work with the development team to determine application and database architecture
  • Implement databases and SQL
  • Develop efficient, maintainable and extendable code to achieve website functionality
  • Undertake a range of website design and maintenance tasks, including modifying HTML templates and existing application code
  • Rigorously test new website applications and implement bug fixes where appropriate
  • Document functionality and assist in the production of help/training material for applications

Ideal skills


The ideal candidate will need a range of skills and experience for this role, including 2+ years experience with LAMP architecture (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) and object-oriented PHP development. A working knowledge of HTML/CSS/Javascript is also required, as is the ability to communicate and document in a clear and concise manner. The ideal candidate must also be able to work autonomously within the team environment. Knowledge of server administration is preferred, but not essential for this role.

Blue Canvas is seeking a Website Designer to join our growing and dynamic Bristol web development team. As a website designer, you will be essential to the creative and technical development of websites and will therefore need a good mix of artistic talent and technical ability.

Essential skills



  • Design new website layouts from scratch, based on detailed specifications, using a variety of tools such as Photoshop, Fireworks, Illustrator and Dreamweaver (experience with Flash is optional)
  • Using your artistic skills to create innovative and professional layouts and graphics for the web, with particular skills in vector illustration (for logos, etc.)
  • Implementing webpage designs, turning graphical mock-ups into real, working web pages, with an emphasis on standards compliance. A strong knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript is required
  • Designing business cards, brochures and other media as required
  • Work on search engine optimisation for websites, with a particular emphasis on document structure

The suitable candidate should have 2+ years experience in web design and demonstrate a strong knowledge of web standards, usability and accessibility.

Blue Canvas is seeking a Website Marketer to join our growing and dynamic Bristol web development team. As a website marketer, you will be essential to the promotion of websites and will therefore need a very strong knowledge of web technologies and techniques, as well as brand identity, copywriting and search engine optimisation.

Essential skills



  • Develop and implement branding/identity for clients, with a particular emphasis on web branding
  • Promote websites both online and in the real world, utilising a variety of methods and media
  • Drive traffic to websites and establish link strategies to improve website search engine positioning. This will include building link relationships and ensuring links in important web directories and major search engines remain up-to-date and accurately described
  • Optimise websites for search engine performance, in terms of structure, content (keywords) and link popularity. This will include working on the HTML structure of websites and using information from clients to help determine and promote core keywords and phrases
  • Copywriting marketing material, both for in-house use and clients. This will include content for use online, as well as in leaflets, brochures, fliers and business cards

The suitable candidate will have 2+ years experience in the web design industry and prior experience of SEO and copywriting. You will need a strong level of autonomy, as well as the ability to communicate fluently and concisely in all forms of media. Due to the search engine optimisation part of this role, a strong knowledge of XHTML/CSS and applicable World Wide Web Consortium standards is essential.
